Mushrooms of the Smolensk region are characterized by a high density of growth; they can be found almost everywhere where there is a birch forest. In any case, every experienced mushroom picker will say this.

Mushroom places of the Smolensk region

For those who are just beginning to comprehend the beauty of “silent hunting,” a map of mushroom places has been compiled.

Smolensky district

The following mushroom spots are located here:

  • Spas-Lipki village: you can get to this place by bus number 133.
  • Babny village: to get to it, you should drive towards Kaspli for about 30 km.

Favorable days for collecting, drying and canning mushrooms according to the Lunar calendar 2022

Attention!

One, even very heavy rain, is not enough for mushroom growth. Rain should thoroughly wet the soil after a dry spell; only subsequent precipitation will provide the necessary nutrition for mushroom growth.

And in conclusion, I would like to remind you of the basic rules, following which you can avoid the troubles associated with collecting unfamiliar mushrooms and their subsequent consumption.

First. You should never take unfamiliar mushrooms, or mushrooms whose edibility there is even the slightest doubt.

Second. You cannot take old and wormy mushrooms. You should not be greedy, putting your life in danger.

Third. The same applies to collecting mushrooms growing near roads, industrial enterprises, in cities and parks. Even edible mushrooms in such places can be poisonous.

Mushrooms grow quickly, and therefore they should be collected just as quickly. By looking at the mushroom picking calendar for 2022, you can easily choose the most favorable days for making preparations for the winter. With the recommendations of the Lunar calendar, you can treat yourself to delicious mushroom food at any time of the year.

Demidovsky district

In this area of the Smolensk region, mushrooms should be looked for in the villages:

  • Nikitino: this corner of the Smolensk region can be reached if you move towards Velizh about 15 km from the regional center (near the village of Zakrutye).
  • Lukashovo: located in the same direction as the previous one, but at a distance of 18 km from the city.
  • Poluyanovo: the direction is the same, the location is not far from the asphalt plant.

The presence of an asphalt plant requires removal to collect mushrooms outside the sanitary zone of the enterprise.

Mushrooms in the Smolensk region

According to long-term observations of mushroom pickers, which they share on specialized resources, five districts are considered the most mushroom-rich in the Smolensk region - Demidovsky, Velizhsky, Krasninsky, Dukhovshchinsky and Monastyrshchinsky. From a scientific point of view, this is explained by the climatic conditions of the western regions - a little more humid due to frequent cyclones, with an abundance of forests and lakes, in particular glacial lakes in the Demidovsky region.

Krasninsky district

The village of Gusino is located 20 km from the regional center near the M1 Belarus highway. This is one of the most popular places among mushroom pickers in the Smolensk region. Despite the fact that there are more and more lovers of “silent hunting” here from year to year.

The richest mushroom places in the Lipetsk region

When choosing where to go for forest harvest, you should pay attention to some of the most abundant places for mushrooms in 2022, which should be highlighted separately from others

Recreation center Quiet Don

Once you drive 14 km from Zadonsk, you immediately find yourself in a fairytale forest. It is here that the recreation center with a rather symbolic name is located - “Quiet Don”. The Don may be quiet, but it’s beautiful – that’s one thing, and fertile – that’s two things. If you go here to pick mushrooms, you can find a huge number of boletus, boletus, and boletus mushrooms, and during a break you can also stumble upon thickets of wild raspberries. This is the fabulous Don forest: you can pick mushrooms and enjoy dessert.

Yellow Sands

This is an ecologically clean area of Lipetsk, where roe deer, deer and elk can still be found in the pine-deciduous forest. But it’s better to go there not in search of such “horned” adventures, but in mushroom places, especially since there are many times more of them than representatives of artiodactyls. Even the most inexperienced mushroom pickers will not leave empty-handed: the variety of species here is simply incredible, and therefore there is no need to list them so that your mouth doesn’t start watering, it’s better to take a basket and go to this heavenly place, since it is located 15 minutes from the city.

Forest fairy tale

In the area of the recreation center you can meet not only late-night vacationers walking through the forest expanses, but also avid mushroom pickers who know exactly the purpose of their arrival. And this is nothing more than the kingdom of honey mushrooms. It is believed that this area has a large number of deposits of this type of mushroom. Honey mushrooms are not only tasty, but also collective, so having found at least one of the representatives, you can immediately stumble upon the whole family, and then enjoy the salted barrel mushrooms for the rest of the year.

Sentsovsky forest

Located very close to the famous confectionery factory, this forest is rich in mushroom places, although it must be admitted that the smell of sweets wafting from the factory is confusing and makes mushroom pickers with a sweet tooth move towards confectionery temptations

However, having taken their hunting sense of smell in their hands and nestled lower in the ground, everyone completely forgets about the proximity of chocolates, because attention switches to boletus, milk mushrooms, porcini and black mushrooms, trumpet mushrooms and russula

Faschevsky forest

Another forest in the Lipetsk region also did not disappoint mushroom pickers. After all, when going there, it’s worth taking a larger basket, especially if the “quiet hunt” comes after heavy rain. At a minimum, a bucket of honey mushrooms is provided, and if you’re lucky, a whole assortment of mushrooms will be collected in the basket: trumpets, chicken coops, milk mushrooms, russula and boletus. The most important thing is to be attentive, patient and careful when searching for your plant catch.

Dukhovshchinsky district

The area is rich in mushroom places

Mushroom places in the Smolensk region in this area are located in forests near the villages:

  • Yeryshi: this settlement can be reached if you move in a northerly direction. The corner is located 10 km from the district center.
  • Ribshevo-1 : the direction is the same as in the previous place, the distance from the regional center is a little further - 31 km.

  • false chanterelle;
  • the honey fungus is false;
  • Satanic;

Roslavl district

The most productive place in the region is the village of Khokhlovka. You can get to it if you move towards the city of Yelnya. The village is located 12 km from Smolensk. However, the Roslavl region is, in principle, famous for its abundance of mushroom places, so you can look for them not only near this settlement.

Irina Selyutina (Biologist):

As soon as the snow begins to melt, one of the earliest and very first mushrooms, Sarcoscipha, appears in sun-warmed areas of the forest. In appearance it looks like a kind of beautiful red “mushroom flower”. Representatives of two species from this genus can grow nearby: scarlet sarcoscypha and Austrian sarcoscypha. It will not be possible to distinguish them by eye without magnifying devices. They are usually called "elf's cup", "redneck" or "scarlet saucer". The size of apothecia can reach 3-5 cm in diameter. It is the hymenium that gives the color to the inner surface, which gives the mushroom its name.

Sarcoscyphae prefer forests (mixed and broad-leaved), city parks and roadside shelterbelts for living. There they settle both on the ground and on plant remains of various origins. They also like roadside ditches, unswampy banks of small swamps littered with dead wood, and damp forest lowlands. Sarcosciphae grow either singly or in large groups. The mushroom is widespread throughout almost the entire European part of the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that Sarcoscypha appears in early spring, it can be found in late autumn and winter (if it is warm enough, with long or frequent thaws). However, the usual growth time is in the 2-3rd decade of March or the beginning of April and as long as the average daily temperature remains at +15...+20℃. As soon as this threshold is exceeded, that’s it, the mushroom is “gone.”

Morels, lines and morel caps appear behind the sarcoscipha. They collect them diligently so that they can enjoy themselves and surprise their friends.

What mushrooms to collect in Adygea

These are russula, aspen boletuses, boletus mushrooms, deer horns, milk mushrooms and white milk mushrooms, milk mushrooms and many others.
Champignons also grow in Adyghe forests. Already in mid-spring, you can see the first morels in the aspen forests. Their discovery causes great delight and they look like little wizened old forest creatures or fairy-tale gnomes sticking their curious heads to the surface.

The king of mushrooms, the boletus, appears twice per season: at the end of spring and at the beginning of summer.

Often in mountain forests you can find mushrooms growing on the trunks of fallen or still living trees. But you shouldn’t collect them, since most parasitic mushrooms are not eaten, they are at least not tasty, and at most dangerous.

As everyone has long known, the mushrooms that we eat have a cap and a body. The shape of both caps and legs can be very different. But every type of mushroom today has poisonous counterparts - this is how they try to resist the animals and people who love to feast on them. Therefore, you should only pick the mushroom that you are absolutely sure of.

Types of false mushrooms

If a mushroom picker has just begun to learn the basics of “silent hunting,” then it is better not to go into the forest alone. It is recommended to take with you someone who understands mushrooms and can distinguish edible from poisonous ones.

If an inexperienced mushroom picker still plans to go into the forest alone, then he needs to take only those species that do not raise doubts. The following types are most often confused with edible mushrooms:

  • satanic and bilious: they are often mistaken for porcini mushrooms, which grow abundantly in the Smolensk region. But in fact, the gall mushroom is unsuitable for food due to its bitter taste, and the satanic mushroom is poisonous. They differ in that the bottom of the cap (spore-bearing layer - hymenophore) has a pink or red tint. Poisonous mushrooms have one more sign: if you break the cap, it will first turn red at the site of damage and then change its shade to a dark color;
  • false honey mushrooms: they can be confused with real honey mushrooms. It is very easy to distinguish these species from each other. The main characteristic of edible mushrooms is the presence of a “skirt” ring on the stem. Poisonous ones do not have it. In addition, good honey mushrooms have a brown-yellow cap, while false ones have a red or yellow-green cap.

It is also not recommended to collect mushrooms that have accumulated a large amount of liquid inside. This indicates they are damaged or overripe. Such mushrooms can release harmful substances and “transform” from edible to poisonous.

A map of mushroom places in the Smolensk region will help you collect a rich harvest of boletus, boletus, boletus and other types of mushrooms. In addition, you need to know the differences between edible mushrooms and false ones, so that a trip to the forest does not end in sad consequences.

Rules for collecting mushrooms

When going mushroom hunting, you should take with you a small knife and a stick with a forked end to make it easier to push apart grass, dry leaves, pine needles and even branches. The most convenient container for mushrooms is a basket. Buckets, backpacks and especially plastic bags are not suitable. The mushrooms “burn” in them, crumble, and become wrinkled. Collected mushrooms are immediately cleaned of soil, leaves, pine needles, grass and other debris adhering to them; remove parts affected by insect larvae. Heavily contaminated lower parts of the legs are cut off. It is better to put mushrooms in the basket with their caps down - this way they are better preserved. Only young mushrooms with fairly dense pulp are suitable for food.

An old, wormy, overripe mushroom should be thrown away, but not on the ground, where it will rot uselessly. It is better to string its hat on a tree or bush branch so that it dries. Then the wind will scatter the mushroom seeds - spores, and you will be able to return to the same place next season for a new mushroom harvest. Mushrooms are collected early in the morning, before the sun heats them. In this case, the “production” can be stored for a longer time.

Mushrooms, heated by the sun and tightly packed in a thick layer in a basket, quickly deteriorate - they become covered with mucus and emit an unpleasant odor. Of course, you can’t eat such mushrooms anymore.

Collection recommendations

Tver is a city far from the list of regions with a clean environment. Therefore, doctors strictly prohibit picking mushrooms near roads, highways and polluted areas, located near processing plants and places with polluted air.

Tip #2

It is better to go for mushrooms in the first half of the day, when mushroom pickers have not yet had time to comb the forest, leaving only roots.

Tip #3

Before picking mushrooms, you should arm yourself with such items as: a navigator to plot a route to the right place, a GPS to leave a point on the map, not to lose your car and leave the forest, a knife, one or more baskets, a raincoat so as not to get your clothes and head wet.
