The Yaroslavl region will become rich in mushroom harvest in 2022. Its rich woodlands, mycelium-friendly weather and wide forests growing on noble soils help to grow many species of edible and conventional mushrooms. So, in a short period of time, many mushroom pickers have already managed to collect a good harvest of valuable species from a quiet hunt.
Spring mushrooms
After the melting of a thick layer of snow and the first warm rays of sunlight, the first edible mushrooms sprout on the forest soil. Strings and morels appear in clearing areas, next to young pines and on paths, where the sun warms the ground better, allowing the mycelium to grow several times better.
In the spring, mushroom pickers also collect other, no less tasty mushrooms. We are talking about such mushrooms as: puffballs, cinder omphalia, champignons, obabki and rows. Although they appear later, they are several times superior in taste and aroma to the first morels and lines.
First foray into the forest 2022: mushrooms, brooms, iron
In this issue: we collect the first noble mushrooms, prepare oak brooms for the bathhouse, test a metal detector from MineLab and dig for iron.
Good day, gentlemen!
On the calendar July 20th. I went into the forest for the first time this year. Partly for mushroom exploration, and partly to prepare brooms and dig ferrous metal with a new MD. What came of it - see below.
Speaking of mushroom places. Lovers of quiet hunting are invariably interested in the question: have mushrooms appeared? The answer is often searched on the Internet. After all, someone must have already gone into the forest and checked the forest lands. All that remains is to give the go-ahead and then the rest can go. Well, not in vain. I myself have never used such information, because in different forests things are different. In one place, a mushroom wave has already begun, but it is, for example, 100 kilometers away from you and there is a review about it. And no one visited the place near you or wrote a report on it, but there are already mushrooms there. What to choose? Where to go? That's why I'm in favor of a personal visit to the forest. And only so.
Now, in mid-July, there is a wave of chanterelles and raspberries are ripening. Along the routes, local traders offer these forest gifts in abundance. So, on the Kostroma highway in the villages there are literally every 30 meters. Naturally expensive.
In the city, a five-liter bucket of raspberries costs 1,000 rubles. It’s interesting that it’s large on top, but not so much on the bottom. Marketing move friends. What did you want?
Fragrant brooms
The aroma of oak brooms is something. Already in the car there is an amazing smell from fresh leaves. Not to mention dried ones. A bathhouse with such a broom is a nice thing.
I fill the trunk of Largus full. It turns out 40-50 pieces. It usually lasts until next year. I make fewer birch trees, about twenty. The smell from them is no worse, but it takes longer to mess with them.
Along with the branches, caterpillars, spiders and other insects settle in the car. Including stink bugs. Then it takes a long time to clean the salon of all these living creatures. It's the little things.
I dug for iron
And while I was busy with brooms, I couldn’t wait to try the device. I bought the MineLab GoFind 44 metal detector purely to search for ferrous metal. There will be a separate and detailed review on it. Looking ahead, I will say that he copes with his task one hundred percent.
I assembled it, turned it on, took a shovel and went to wave it. Signals went out immediately. First cop. Lots of roots. I've been looking for a long time. Eat. This is the first nut. Pants full of joy. Found! Further more. First there was the tractor door, and then the steel wire. Lastly, the cork.
I was pleased with the first finds. This MD is an interesting thing.
Let's go pick mushrooms
After these things, I went to wander through the forest. To be honest, I didn’t expect to find anything. For the reason that the forest is dry. There was little rain. At least wear slippers.
The very first mushroom was the white one. I didn't even want to take it. I came across it when I was preparing brooms. I put it aside on the trail, deciding to pick it up last.
After some time, we came across these beauties. Three young boletuses. Everyone is of different height. Three plus one, I thought, that’s something, and I went to the car to get the package. I didn’t take the basket from home. It was reconnaissance.
He returned, collected the loot and saw another, lonely specimen. Middle aged, but not rotten.
Then I saw two at once. I didn’t see the second one right away. You can look for it in the picture yourself.
Soon I found two red-capped boletuses in the moss. One towered above the green blanket and was clearly visible. The other had only his hat sticking out, but in fact he was longer than the first.
That's better. Immediately there was excitement. My friend, I should look more carefully, I told myself, maybe I’ll find something.
This is how fellow vandals kill young forests. The birch did not even interfere with the passage.
I'm moving on. He turned on the increased attention mode and two acrobat brothers appeared on the horizon, covered with old foliage. Great, I'll take it.
Another forest character grew up and asked the blade of grass to move, and at the same time covered himself with a leaf.
Finally, in a completely unexpected place, I found a strong white guy. Grew among thick ferns. This was the last mushroom of the day. It turned out that it all started with white, and ended with white.
The mushrooms have arrived home. Nobody expected such a catch. There was a medium sized dish. There will be mushroom soup!
This is how the first mushroom scouting of this year turned out. Such mushrooms were caught in the frame. The silent hunt has begun. A new trip is just around the corner.
Good luck to everyone and baskets full of mushrooms!
Summer mushrooms
Since the beginning of June, in the forests of the Yaroslavl region, mushrooms, boletus mushrooms, porcini mushrooms and moss mushrooms have appeared. Their number exceeds several times the previous few years. Mushroom pickers collect them in buckets and baskets, bags and even sacks. As they say, “Whoever likes it the best!” A little later, russula appear in mixed and coniferous forests. The easiest way to find them is in clearings that allow light and raindrops to pass through well. From July onwards the weather becomes drier and hotter. This climate is not suitable for all edible mushrooms, but only for those that are ideal for the germination of mycelium. Boletuses and boletuses, boletus and umbrellas are 4 types of edible mushrooms accustomed to excessive heat and dry climate.
Autumn mushrooms
From the beginning of September, air temperatures begin to cool, rains and humidity begin. In the Yaroslavl region, more than 50 edible mushrooms begin to actively grow during this period of time. True, not all mushroom pickers are gurus, and they collect only 11 species. They are considered to be the most popular in the region and Russia as a whole.
- little boletuses (boletus and boletus);
- White mushrooms;
- Polish mushrooms;
- saffron milk caps;
- boletus;
- whites;
- waves;
- rows;
- Russula;
- umbrellas;
- honey mushrooms
The most popular in the region are honey mushrooms. In 2022, they are collected in almost all mixed and deciduous forests on rotten stumps, tree trunks, edges, and even at fire sites. Mushroom germination is quite fast. And if on Sunday only mature mushrooms were collected in the clearing, after 4-5 days or by Friday, the mushroom picker will be able to collect a new crop in the same place. On average, growth increases by 1.5-2 cm per day.

How to distinguish an edible mushroom from an inedible one
What mushrooms can you collect?
This is interesting! Mushrooms are a low-calorie product that is ideal for the diet of any adult who does not suffer from gastrointestinal diseases. They can be used during a diet, in the diet of people susceptible to type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Before going into the forest, a beginner should know one simple rule, from which the secondary ones come. All mushrooms are divided into four types:
- edible;
- conditional;
- inedible;
- poisonous.
Only the first two varieties of mushrooms can be collected for food, the rest are collected exclusively for their healing properties, and only by those who understand traditional medicine. First of all, attention is paid to valuable species: boletus mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, varieties of honey mushrooms, mushrooms, milk mushrooms and others, no less tasty and aromatic. If there are no noble mushrooms in the forest, the attention of mushroom pickers turns to conditionally edible gifts that require careful heat treatment and subsequently pickling. If there are no first and second mushrooms, it is better to go home empty-handed or switch to picking berries than to expose your health to danger - poisoning, intoxication and even death.
In 2022, the abundance of mushroom pickers will not leave even beginners who decide to get carried away by quiet hunting without a catch. From forest champignons, oyster mushrooms and umbrellas, guests of the forest will be able to prepare any main courses and snacks. Porcini and Polish mushrooms, obabki, are a good option for drying and canning for the winter. Honey mushrooms and chanterelles are ideal for pates. The rest of the mushrooms that fall into the list of “edible” and “conditional” can be used for canning and food, and less often - for freezing.
When preparing conditionally edible mushrooms, you should follow the prescribed heat treatment rules, remembering the step-by-step cooking rules. If the recipe states that the mushrooms should be boiled several times, draining the water each time, you should not do your own thing, changing the description at your discretion. Reducing the time and failure to follow all the rules can lead to gastrointestinal upset, nausea, diarrhea and even mild poisoning.

Winter varieties
You can pick mushrooms in the Yaroslavl region not only in spring or autumn. Even in winter, certain varieties of fruits appear here, suitable for consumption or use for harvesting.
Winter mushrooms
Moths are those mushrooms that do not have poisonous counterparts. You can find them in places where oaks, elms and lindens grow. The optimal period for collection is December and January. Sometimes you can stumble upon them in gardens or parks.
Such honey mushrooms have a huge advantage: it is almost impossible to confuse them with other cultures. And all thanks to the period of their growth, which is atypical for many mushrooms. You can recognize the winter honey mushroom by its bright orange cap.
Umbrellas
Umbrella is an edible crop that has a very unusual appearance. People call this gift of nature differently: pop, spotted or chicken mushroom, etc. Umbrellas have a lot of features by which they can be distinguished from other mushrooms.
Young mushrooms have an egg-shaped cap that resembles the appearance of a closed umbrella. But with age, it gradually opens up and becomes prostrate. Its size can reach 14-35 cm in circumference. A clearly visible bump appears in the center.
The stem of the umbrellas is thin and long – up to 50 cm in height. Its thickness is usually no more than 5 cm. It is shaped like a cylinder, narrowed at the top and slightly widened at the bottom.
The pulp is white, has a pleasant taste and aroma.
Polypores
Several species of edible polypores grow on the territory of the Yaroslavl region. Despite their common name, these fruits may belong to different families.
Such crops have fleshy pulp and their cap is quite massive. Some specimens can reach quite large sizes. The stem of tinder fungus is practically absent due to the fact that it is tightly attached to the tree on which the fungus grows. By the way, these gifts of the forest mostly prefer deciduous trees.
