As soon as the rainy weather of spring gives way to summer warmth, the first mushrooms appear in the forests of the Tver region. Lovers of quiet hunting boast of the first chanterelles, boletus, boletus and even the robust white ones. Then there are summer mushrooms, which are popularly called spike mushrooms - they appear at the time when cereals are heading. But the peak of the mushroom season in 2022 will be in September and early October. Mushroom pickers organize whole discussions about the benefits and harms of mushrooms, ask questions about unknown individuals, boast about their catch, and most importantly, discuss the most mushroom places.
Let's go on a "silent hunt"
Everywhere, the mushroom season, when mushrooms are carried out of the forest by the bucketful, has not yet begun. But today you can go mushroom hunting in Tver and the region and pick up a basket of chanterelles or russula. And even boletus mushrooms can be especially lucky.
But to prevent a trip to the forest from being disappointing, you need to know a few rules for an avid mushroom picker.
1. Come to the forest as early as possible.
A real mushroom pro will meet the sun at the edge of the forest, and he will already have a basket full of forest gifts.
They say that when the sun does not illuminate everything around and there is dew, the mushroom is more noticeable thanks to its shiny cap. And when there are still few mushrooms, it is better to hurry, otherwise you will only have “roots” left, and the tops will be in the box of earlier mushroom pickers.
2. Don’t immediately direct your feet deep into the forest
Many people think that the further you go into the forest, the more mushrooms there will be. But that's not true. It is more advisable to start from the edge of the forest or its outskirts. For some reason, many people forget about this, although you can always find a lot of mushrooms there.
- If you come across a mushroom, it’s worth looking nearby for more. When the mushroom season begins, the fungus may be the only one in this place, but, as a rule, mushrooms reproduce with the help of mycelium. Carefully examine the area next to the find.
Mushroom places 2022 Tver and the map in the photo
Based on reviews from local residents who have been mushroom picking at least several times this year, we can conclude that edible mushrooms are actively sprouting in 5 places in the Tver region. The map of mushroom places includes:
- Bezhetsk highway, namely 18 km. There, mushroom pickers find mushrooms, autumn mushrooms and black milk mushrooms.
- A large number of boletus is observed in the villages of Kumordino and Mednoye. There, mushroom pickers pick “snotty” mushrooms, ideal for preparing for the winter, freezing, frying and baking with potatoes.
- In the Tver region in Konakovo, near the airport, where there is a clean forest, you can find a lot of porcini and Polish mushrooms, moss mushrooms and honey mushrooms.
- On the territories of several highways, close to the coast of the Volga River, you can find obabka, saffron milk caps, boletus and rowers.
- The least number of mushrooms, compared to the previous four places, was located near the Yunost residential area. There they collect only obabka, bluelegs and rows.
Important!
To detect mushrooms, you need to be careful. Sometimes mushrooms sprout from different sides of trees, and in order to see them, you need to walk the area several times, lengthwise and crosswise.
High season
Mushrooms begin to appear en masse in Tver in September. All avid mushroom pickers are very familiar with the feeling of excitement, the kind that embraces real hunters. Here's a shiny hat, here's another one, and here, under a tree, there's a whole family of butterflies...
What an indescribable feeling it is when the box is slowly but surely filled with saffron milk caps, aspen boletuses, and boletus mushrooms. And if you’re lucky, you can also find porcini mushrooms. Tver (2014 was pleased with an unprecedented harvest) was simply “inundated” with noble mushrooms. Mushroom pickers have repeatedly boasted about their valuable find, which made many people who like to walk through the forest in search of forest gifts even more excited.
Experienced people can determine in advance how successful the mushroom season will be. If it rains a lot in the spring and the summer is warm but not dry, then you can safely prepare for the upcoming “quiet hunt.” There will probably be a lot of mushrooms.
But even now mushroom places in Tver will delight mushroom pickers with chanterelles and honey mushrooms.
Precautionary measures
The Tver region does not have a good environment. For this reason, consuming even edible varieties can cause poisoning. To prevent this, consult with mushroom pickers before collecting forest gifts, especially if you are doing this for the first time.
Try to put only young specimens in the basket: old ones can accumulate a lot of harmful substances. It is better to pick mushrooms in the morning (from 6-7 o'clock). If the specimens you like have open caps, it is also better not to touch them. The same applies to heavily overgrown fruiting bodies. Toxic substances begin to accumulate in their old mycelia.
You should not pick mushrooms near landfills and factories. The same applies to places located close to busy highways. No matter how many mushrooms there are, they can pose a danger to humans due to the large amount of toxins.
You should not start collecting during dry periods. In the absence of sufficient moisture, toxins accumulate in the mushroom mycelium. The best time to go to the forest is a day or two after it rains. It is better to cut mushrooms with the stem. This makes it much easier to distinguish poisonous from edible.
When putting mushrooms in a basket, place the largest and densest specimens with their caps down, and place the small and fragile ones on top.
In 2022, mushrooms are also available in the Tver region, and in large quantities. Mushroom pickers who visited the forest at least once managed to collect a treasure trove of fruits, which were used for pickles, preparing first and second courses, appetizers and pates. From early spring until the end of autumn, Tver pampers local residents with its rich and incredibly tasty harvest of mushroom fruits. And if our readers have not yet managed to collect their share, it’s time to go on a quiet hunt, picking up edible and conditional mushrooms that are suitable for cooking any dishes.

Mushrooms, but not everywhere
Don’t think that if it’s mushroom picking season according to the calendar, they will appear everywhere and at once. Firstly, a lot depends on how hot or rainy the summer was. It happens that it may rain, but the weather is warm and as soon as the sun comes out, the mushrooms are actively growing.
This happened in Tver in 2013. When in the middle of summer, boletus, boletus and even porcini mushrooms were sold in buckets at the markets.
But the grace period quickly ended. And it was not possible to harvest crops everywhere. Not all popular mushroom places in Tver pleased with their abundance. For example, near the village of Mitnevo, where there are usually a lot of mushrooms, there were simply none in the 2013-2014 season.
Collection recommendations
- Tip #1
Tver is a city far from the list of regions with a clean environment. Therefore, doctors strictly prohibit picking mushrooms near roads, highways and polluted areas, located near processing plants and places with polluted air.
It is better to go for mushrooms in the first half of the day, when mushroom pickers have not yet had time to comb the forest, leaving only roots.
Before picking mushrooms, you should arm yourself with such items as: a navigator to plot a route to the right place, a GPS to leave a point on the map, not to lose your car and leave the forest, a knife, one or more baskets, a raincoat so as not to get your clothes and head wet.
"Silent Hunt" Season 2015
Already, many are wondering whether the mushroom season has begun? The mass harvest, when the forest simply pleases with the abundance of its gifts, occurs in August-September.
At the end of August, you can literally collect buckets, not just baskets and chanterelles, boletus mushrooms, milk mushrooms and much more. The special pride of any mushroom picker is, of course, the porcini mushroom. The Tver region, like no other, indulges in this majestic mushroom.
In the midst of mushroom picking, specimens such as honey mushrooms and russula are not counted. Yes, they are not considered real mushrooms. They are simply not noticed and not collected.
What mushrooms can be found in the Tver region
Many types of edible mushrooms grow in the Tver region. The most common ones are:
- morels: one of the early species that appears immediately with the arrival of spring;
- lines: an early variety, they begin to collect it already in May, the toxin gyromitrin was found in their fruiting bodies, which cannot be removed even with prolonged boiling;
- tinder fungi: young fruiting bodies ripen at the end of April;
- field champignons: grow until November;
- birch sponges (birch polypore): one of the earliest species to appear in spring, growing on birch or oak trees;
- boletus mushrooms: you won’t be able to start collecting these mushrooms in the spring (they grow only by mid-June);
- loading: the active growth period falls in mid-summer, so it is better to collect them from July to September;
- boletus mushrooms: harvested from June to October;
- boletuses: grow from June to the end of September.
When picking mushrooms, you may also encounter a hare mushroom - a bad counterpart to the white one. They taste completely different. Although the hare or chestnut mushroom is an edible species, it is not consumed as often as the white one. When cooked, it develops a bitterness that is not present in its fresh form. Therefore, it is practically only dried, because it is this process that destroys the bitterness.
You can also find the following mushrooms there:
- oyster mushrooms: grow in late June-early July, harvesting possible until October;
- boletus: they are collected from July to September;
- milk mushrooms: a late specimen, grows in August, but you can see mushrooms in the forest only until the end of September;
- Chanterelles: grow from July to October;
- Russula: they are collected in July.
You should not pick mushrooms near landfills and factories. The same applies to places located close to busy highways. No matter how many mushrooms there are, they can pose a danger to humans due to the large amount of toxins.
What can you cook

It’s impossible to count everything. Each housewife will probably have her own unique and delicious recipe.

TOP 10 edible mushrooms 2022
Today, the most popular types of mushrooms among mushroom pickers are:
- 1st place - morels
These conditionally edible mushrooms can only be collected in spring. Their fruiting occurs in cool, not very hot weather. Deciduous forests, and especially aspen deposits, are considered a favorable zone for their germination.
- 2nd place - lines
Regardless of its conditionally edible variety in Russia and “poisonous” in Europe, many mushroom pickers collect lines in their baskets, hoping for successful heat treatment. Is it worth the risk? It’s difficult to answer... everyone decides for themselves!
- 3rd place - boletus
Porcini mushrooms have always been considered the most valuable fruits of the forest. They can be found not only in forest belts of deciduous trees, but also in coniferous forests. Active growth of boletus mushrooms begins at the end of August and continues until the end of November - beginning of December. Ideal for reproducing first and second courses, freezing and other cooking options.
- 4th place - boletus
Many people mistakenly believe that boletus can only be collected in the fall. In fact, when the weather is favorable, experienced mushroom pickers collect “snotty” mushrooms in spring and summer. In the warm season, competition is reduced, and the chances of success increase several times.
Benefits and harms
Benefit
The chemical composition of mushrooms is very unique. They are approximately 90% water. They contain fiber, potassium, calcium and magnesium necessary for the construction of cells. A huge amount of vitamins, nicotinic acid and 18 amino acids out of 20 known, taking part in protein synthesis. Regular consumption of mushrooms helps prevent diseases of the liver and kidneys (including urolithiasis), and the circulatory system.
Daily consumption serves as a prevention of malignant tumors and stimulates human immunity.
Again, due to their chemical composition, mushrooms are considered heavy food that is difficult to digest. People suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract should consume them in limited quantities. They contain chitin, which slows down the functioning of the stomach and, if cooked incorrectly, contributes to putrefactive processes in the gastrointestinal tract.
When preparing dishes, salting or preserving for the winter, it is extremely important to adhere to the exact recipe. You should carefully sort out the crop, wash it in several waters, boil it and then proceed to the main method of preparation. Otherwise, there are known cases of botulism.
Inedible
In the Tver region you can often find a beautiful and unusual type of mushroom - chickweed . In the early stages of growth, it resembles a nut in shape, but then opens up, releasing shoots like a starfish.
Mushroom pickers also come across representatives of a rare species listed in the Red Book - canine mutinus . They look like pinkish sprouts with bright crimson ends.
